1985 Buick Regal Grand National: Bad To The Bone

The American VL Turbo.

Not a whole lot of information on this 1985 Buick Regal Grand National, so I will keep it quick.

If you don’t think the Grand National is one the coolest 80’s muscle cars, then we seriously can’t be friends (its younger sibling the GNX is the coolest if you’re wondering) . If you answer “Iroc-Z”, then you best be talking about one sitting on Daytons, or you can 100% leave this website.

I did say this post would be quick (it’s late and I’m full of Pizza), so here’s a summary of why I love this 1985 Buick Regal Grand National:

  1. Its quick: Buick did what Holden should have done with their (same) V6 throughout the nineties (but in 1982). They turbocharged the crap out of it, and proceeded to wind up the boost every year (read on).
  2. Its simple: The logo for this car is simply a Turbo, and that is pretty much the flavour from there on in.
  3. Almost an icon: In 1987, Buick sent the Grand National off in style by building the GNX (Grand National Experimental). It could do 12 second quarters (and pants an F40 apparently), and went on to become an icon (they’re fetching over $100k USD at auction now). You might be able to convince stupid friends that this featured car is actually a GNX.
  4. It provided hope: From a time when America was choking in emission laws and terribly made cars, the humble Grand National showed the world that the Yanks still had some life left in them.
  5. Its famous: It was in one of the Fast n Furiosessesessss (?).
  6. It’s relatable: I have always thought of the Grand National as the U.S.A’s answer to the VL Turbo, and I love me some VL Turbo.
  7. Its all black: All Black, everything.

And that’s it. That’s all the reason you need to understand why this 1985 Buick Regal Grand National is cool.

So, someone one go buy it now please. Before I do something stupid.

It’s on Carsales here, for $32.7k

Now watch this amazing advert for the Buick Grand National. Its surprising they sold any at all.

1985 Buick Regal Grand National: In the owners own words:

America’s last true muscle car. This car was one of the hottest in the USA in the 80’s and now very hard to find – and US prices are soaring. Featured in “Fast and Furious 4” the car is unmolested, in great condition and ready to drive, race or destroy tires in. The car has lived in California all its life so it has no hidden or obvious rust issues. We are negotiable on price so come and look at the car – it is a beauty.
