1976 Holden HX LE Monaro: Pleasure Paradise

An original and unrestored Aussie coupe.

Bloody hell. Here’s one for the record books. It’s a 1976 Holden HX LE Monaro, and it would have to be one of the best original Holden’s for sale right now.

The LE was a bit of special number that Holden put together to commentate the binning of the coupe body shape. Despite sharing the same body style and driveline (308, Turbo-Hydramatic and Salisbury LSD), the LE was technically never titled as a Monaro, and you’ll find purists all over the internet debating it’s true identity.

Personally, I’ve never been a fan of these types of end of model specials that are more cosmetically focused. I prefer when a manufacture tells not just the designers, but also the engineers, to go wild. I’m talking about cars like the VZ L76 Commodores and AU3 5.6 litre strokers. End of the generation models with a bit more heat. But, that’s just one man’s opinion, and the LE’s have seen a lot of love since being released 43 years ago.

Despite my opinion, I’ll forgive this LE. I’ll forgive it because it is an absolute time warp. Low km’s, fully documented, original, unrestored and owned by the same family since new. Its a minter.

And, I have to admit, it does look pretty cool. Especially finished in its Metallic Crimson (the only colour for the LE’s) with gold highlights and crushed velour interior. Kind of like Biff Tannen’s palatial apartment in Back to the Future. Real sleazy, in a good way.

To read more, see the owners description below. They’ve done a very detailed write up of the LE.

You can find it on Carsales here for $175,000*
