1969 Ford Econoline Supervan: Van to the power of Van

The ultimate sin-bin

Today on Car Rave we are featuring this Diamond windowed, Octagon steering-wheeled, Jelly Bean wearing 1969 Ford Econoline Supervan. What more can I say?

Big body 60’s and 70’s American vans are really experiencing a bit of a comeback as of late. Imports seem to be on the rise, with more and more local examples flooding the ‘gram as of late.

In Australia, we of course favour the sedan based sin bins (panelvans), and have reluctantly accepted our parents (or maybe even grandparents now??) probably shagged in at least one at some point. Gross!

But the Yanks have preferred the COE style vans since the early 60’s, having ditched their sedan based panelvan equivalents in favour of more room to shag, I assume.

Anyway, enough dribble.

Let’s focus on the amazing piece kit. I’ve mentioned the diamond windows and wheels (both steering and road-going)- all amazing. It’s got a 302 V8, insulated and fur-lined rear (a must), paint you’ll never forget and generally looks to be in amazing condition.

But my absolute favourite thing about this van is how it represents an automotive style and era that we don’t see enough of in Australia.

Raked stance, big and little white lettered tyres, wild paint- it’s a true 70’s style Street Machine. Just about hitting Street Freak territory.

,If your not familiar with 70’s style Street Machines, and Street Freak style for that matter, you need to check out the Instagram page Polished Slots (@polisheslots). It’s a history lesson you’ll actually enjoy. For more van specific inspiration, I recommend checking out California Street Vans, Custom Vanner Magazine, Deez Crew (Japan) and locally Noosa Street Vans.

The Aussie car scene needs WAY more of this. Why-oh-why must every late 60’s/early 70’s muscle car play follow the leader in this country? It’s either low with big billet dubs, or low and centreline-d. Nothing wrong with either look- they’ve just been done to death.

Additionally, you will never not have friends with this car. I guarantee people will flock to you. There will be late nights, drunk chats and much debauchery in the back of it. No tents, swags or hotel rooms needed. Just pull up, open the doors, and take it in. You’re life would just be better.

So on that note, someone please buy this 1969 Ford Econoline Supervan. It is currently on eBay for for 25k – here. Fuck the purists/sheep!
