1970 BMW E9 2800CS: Sell everything

A classic coupe tastefully modified

Jesus. The time has come to sell everything- the house, the cars, the wife, the kids. Everything. Because this 1970 BMW E9 2800CS Restomod has just came up for sale, and its damn near perfect.

I have prattled on about my love for the E9, so I will try to restrain myself in this post. Which will be hard.

I mean this thing is EPIC.

Built by John Ward, of Fuel Bespoke Design, with the help and facilitation of MotorRetro, this iconic 70’s German coupe, known as Von-Trapp, has been transformed into a modern sports car.

And I’m not talking about a quick engine swap. No, this car has had the full treatment.

Sitting where the old 2,788 cc six used to sit, is now a 330hp S54 motor out of an E46 M3. Behind that sits an older E36 M3 5 speed, chosen for its narrower dimensions resulting in zero tunnel modifications.

John has also sifted through the M3 parts catalogues for the front suspension and brakes, whereas the rear is a mix of E28 535i and M5 parts. And you thought upgrading the Commodore to slotted rotors was a big step!

There is literally a ton of other modifications and upgrades to this amazing car, all of which is perfectly documented on Johns own Fuel Bespoke Design website.

1970 BMW E9 2800CS: In the owner’s own words

This is a one of a kind custom E9! It is built around the concept of retaining those beautiful 70’s lines but with a totally modern power train and electronics that you would expect in a modern day car. The body alone has over 700 hours on fabrication. A full account of the works can be found on www.fuelbespokedesign.com.

Yes it’s CSL sort of money, is it as collectable as a restored CSL. The demand and price of restored/modernised classics has skyrocketed over the last few years and this model is the absolute perfect candidate for such an upgrade. Discerning enthusiasts will appreciate the costs involved in just restoring a stock E9, and this restomod is something else!

The car, affectionately known as Von Trapp, not only was recognised as the “Best BMW” at the Sydney German Autofest  in October, it also took the coveted “Best of Show” prize over all the other marques and all 450 German cars – an incredible feat that is justified by the quality and uniqueness of this car.
