1983 Mitsubishi JA Starion: Best of the rest

It doesnt get much more peak 80’s JDM than this 1983 Mitsubishi JA Starion.

Turbo? Check. Red Velour? Check. Pop-up headlights? Check. Wedge styling? Check.

This little gem from Mitsubishi (MMC, thankyou) has everything you’ll ever need. And if have a budget of $10k and in the market for a JDM coupe, you can’t really go past it.

Sure, there’s the First gen RX7, which can still be had for a similar price if you search. But you’ll quickly go bankrupt feeding it’s petrol addiction. And if the seals go in the little 12a? Well, forget it. FYI- I love RX7’s and would suffer the pain of owning one in a heartbeat.

And what else is there? There was the S12 Nissan Silvia- but Australia only got the pox n/a Gazelle- and imports are thin on the ground. Same goes for the DR30 Skyline. And you can forget finding an AE86 in the same condition and price as this Starion.

There doesn’t seem to be much needed for the little silver fox. If it were me, I would maybe just do a wheel change. Some SSR MK III’s would do nicely. However, it does come with stockies if you want the original look.

Sure, it doesn’t have the BRAP of the RX7, the heritage of the Skyline or the icon status of the AE86. But it’s unique, and turbo, and manual, and rear wheel drive.

And that’s just about all I need in life.
