1985 Citroën CX 25 Prestige Turbo

Here is an odd one. It’s a 1985 Citroen CX 25 Prestige Turbo. A car so unique, I just had to include it on this website.

Designed by Robert Opron– the same designer who penned the stunning Citroën SM- the Citroën CX was a quirky yet attractive car that had a staggering 17 year run. Replacing the famous Citroën DS, the CX followed on the tradition of advanced mechanicals, world class suspension and unique aerodynamic body styling that Citroën had become famous for. One particularly interesting feature of the CX was its complete lack of stalks on the steering wheel, instead the featuring an all button interior. This allowed drivers to access such things as turning signals without taking their hands off the wheel.

Whilst all CX models are unique (most french cars tbh), the CX 25 Prestige Turbo was on a whole other level. The Citroen CX 25 Prestige Turbo was the height of French opulence and luxury to those who were game- which, unfortunately, equated to 215 in 1985. It featured a 2.5l Petrol Turbo Engine, a lengthened wheelbase over stock and an interior so plush you could be happily be buried in it. It was the go to car for Frances elite, including President Jaques Chirac. And like all CX’s, it featured probably the coolest, yet flimsiest looking, steering wheel found on any car ever.

This particular Citroen CX 25 Prestige Turbo looks to be one of the best. With a 1st Prize ‘Michelin Era’ concours win at the 2019 French Car Day under its belt, it has obviously had some love poured into it over its lifetime. Black on Black, with basically a factory airbag system to drop it on the sills and those subtle yellow drivers lights and external Cibie fog lights poking out the front- you would certainly stand out at any Cars and Coffee event you attended. Oh, and its a 5 speed manual. Try finding many other luxury limos from the 80’s with a clutch!
