1995 Volvo 850 T-5R: Boxy Boy

Look, I may get flamed for this one- but, its a risk I am willing too take. Because I just love this incredibly black, incredibly boxy 1995 Volvo 850 T-5R currently for sale, and it reminds me of a simpler time. The fucking 90’s.

I remember the exact moment I fell in love with the 850. It was upon seeing an ad for the replacement to the T-5R, the even hotter 850R. It was a full pager on the last page of my Dad’s wheels magazine, and a lesson in early Photoshop. Taking up the majority of the page was a Bright Red 850R, seemingly modified to become a Pro-Street Drag Car. The ad read “The Thought Behind The New 850R”, and you can check it out below.

It grabbed my attention, and I never forgot it. Infact, I have had a soft for all hot Volvo’s ever since, just because of the affect this ad had on me.

These days, Volvo play things a little safer in the advertising realm, as do most car makers. With laws about what can and cant be shown, creativity is seemingly choked to point of boring collabs with Swedish DJ’s (RIP Avicii).

But back to this car, the not as quick but still cool as hell 850 T-5R. It is in impeccable condition, with a fresh respray and perfectly suited Pegasus wheels. These Volvo’s may be boxy, but I have always thought proportionally they were great. Whilst the wagon is the most desirable amongst fans, the sedans are still hot looking car that will certainly stand out amongst the Germans.
